TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan — The Cagayan Museum and Historical Research Center (CMHRC) has ceremonially kicked off its month-long celebration of History Month (Buwan ng Kasaysayan) 2025 today. In a short program held at the Museum, CMHRC Administrative Officer John Paul Mabasa led the formal unveiling of the line up of activities that will form part of the commemoration. One of the highlights of the celebration will be the launching of a new exhibit entitled, “Ngarab”, on August 15. The said exhibit, curated by Museum Researcher Jan Karl Coballes and photographer John Leonardo Dimain IV, will feature the blade traditions of the Ilokano, Itawit, Ibanag, and the Atta-Agta peoples of Cagayan. This will be followed by a double book launch on August 22, featuring “Fuerza Cagayana”, a treatise on the colonial-period forts of Cagayan, written by Cagayan Heritage Conservation Society (CHCS) President Ar. Michael Tabao. The second book is entitled “Cagayan in Ming China’s Nautical World”, written by Cagayan Museum Curator Niรฑo Kevin Baclig, which highlights the trade relations of Cagayan and China during the Ming Dynasty. Part of the month-long observance is a tribute ceremony to the Cagayan Museum’s founder, the late former governor, Teresa J. Dupaya, on August 28. Joining the museum staff at the formal launch are CHCS Vice-President Prince Wilson Macarubbo, and member Jerome Tamayao. The annual celebration of History Month in August was institutionalized by virtue of Proclamation No. 339 under the term of former president Benigno S. Aquino III, replacing the observance of History Week, which was formerly held from the 15th until the 21st of September. Apart from History Month, the Museum is also joining the celebration of National Languages Month this August; the CMHRC also advocates for the promotion, documentation, of preservation of local languages to protect linguistic diversity around the world.
