TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan — The Cagayan Museum and Historical Research Center has once again participated in a national summit for heritage workers held at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila on 19-20 November, 2025. Organized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the conference focused on solidifying synergies and partnerships across societal sectors in the management of cultural heritage. The event also aims to strengthen the capacities of local site managers and rights-holders of heritage places and to support key advocates and champions in protecting cultural heritage sites. Among the topics discussed were intangible and tangible cultural heritage management and conservation, risk assessment, and public and private interest for cultural heritage.
The discourse also included heritage regulation in Comprehensive Land-Use Plans, disaster resilience in heritage governance, ecclesiastical heritage convergences, and building community capacity for collaborative local heritage management and enforcement. The conference was attended by CMHRC Director and Curator Niรฑo Kevin D. Baclig, CMHRC Archives and Research Center head, Jan Karl C. Coballes, and Administrative Aide Ramon M. Caranguian, Jr. The CMHRC’s participation in the conference is aligned with the Museum’s objective of improving its network and capabilities as the steward of Cagayan’s cultural heritage.

Last week, the CMHRC was also represented in two simultaneous conventions. Baclig participated in the Southeast Asian Studies Regional Exchange Program (SEASREP) Conference as a panel discussant on the experience of Philippine heritage societies at the Thammasat University in Thailand. On the other hand, Coballes joined the Ugnayang Pang-Aghamtao Conference at the Holy Name University, Tagbilaran City, Bohol where he presented his research on Cagayano culture and ethno-history. Last month, the CMHRC staff represented the province at the National Council of Museums convention in Baguio City. In addition, Baclig virtually presented a paper on the Cagayan experience in the Philippine Revolution at the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon.
Earlier this year, the Museum also joined the National Historical Commission of the Philippines – Local Historical Committees Network conference in Guiuan, Eastern Samar, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) conference on world heritage sites in Intramuros, Manila and Pasay City. Apart from these events, the CMHRC also conducted its own Cagayan Heritage, Culture, and Arts Summit, a three-day convention that featured national and local experts on research and heritage, which is one of the Museum’s major annual activities.
