TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan — The Cagayan Museum and Historical Research Center (CMHRC) has officially opened its extension office at the Cagayan Provincial Government Center in Barangay Bangag, Lallo today. Located at the third floor of the Main Building of the new government center, the said office is one of two Museum facilities in the complex– the old Provincial Sub-capitol Building is currently being prepared to serve as another Museum extension, envisioned to house new and unique exhibits and gallery spaces. With the Lallo sub-office now operational, stakeholders and residents from the northern municipalities of the province can conveniently transact with the Museum for scheduling of tours, research assistance, and other services without the need to travel far south to Tuguegarao City. According to Baclig, the off-site expansion of the Museum is part of the institution’s objective of improving its services as the steward of Cagayan cultural heritage. Presently, the CMHRC is storing hundreds of artifacts and cultural materials such that its current physical structure has limited capability in showcasing their entirety to the public. “Aside from our ongoing renovation to establish additional galleries at our main building in Tuguegarao City, another way of fully sharing the wealth of Cagayan’s history and culture is to open another branch of the Museum near the heart of the province, in Lallo,” Baclig explained. As of the moment, the sub-capitol is scheduled for retrofitting this year, before the Museum can transfer some of its collections of cultural objects to the building as an example of adaptive reuse.
