TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan — To close National Arts Month 2026, the Cagayan Museum and Historical Research Center (CMHRC) hosted the Zininaga Lecture Series yesterday, with special a topic entitled, Understanding the Art Market .
Led by Niรฑo Kevin D. Baclig, CMHRC Director and Curator, the free lecture aimed to equip local artists with insights into the mechanics of the industry, strategies to elevate their works, and the confidence to overcome the stigma that artistic careers are unsustainable.
Baclig, while noting that the local art market is gaining significant traction, encouraged artists to leverage this growing community interest, emphasizing that support stems not just from visual appeal, but from a genuine appreciation for the craftsmanship of Cagayanos. And, from this appreciation, should come support in the form of market trade.Described as a dynamic commercial ecosystem, the activity underscores that the Cagayan art scene encompasses not just the creation, valuation, promotion, and also the sale of artworks in order to sustain such an ecosystem and in turn, the artists’ passion to create.
Through this lecture series, local artists are being empowered to view their work as valuable assets. By combining their artistic skills with a deep connection to their cultural heritag– drawing inspiration from ancestral stories and traditions, Cagayanos are better prepared to navigate and thrive in a competitive art market.
Baclig ended the event by guaranteeing the local creative sector of the Cagayan Museum’s unending support, while looking forward to more collaborations and the development of the Cagayan’s art scene.
The lecture was attended by artists of diverse crafts and art forms. (Davin Edjae S. Lacambra)
