TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan — Students and faculty members from the University of the Philippines Baguio conducted field and archival work in the provinces of Cagayan and Isabela last April 10 to 13, 2026.The activity involved students enrolled in the course History 117 (History of the Cordillera and Northern Luzon), under the classes of Aldous Tracy F. Rubio and Alvin Jhon V. Abril, together with other faculty members from the Department of History and Philosophy. The field trip aimed to provide students with hands-on learning experiences and allowed them to apply their knowledge by engaging with local communities and gathering information from local archives. The recent trip included visits to heritage sites such as those in Tumauini, San Pablo, and Tuguegarao City. With the support of the Archdiocese of Tuguegarao, Cagayan Museum and Historical Research Center, and the Cagayan Heritage Conservation Society, the activity was also designed to help students deepen their understanding of Cagayan Valley’s history, from precolonial times to the present. Moreover, It also allowed them to engage in archival research, interact with local communities, and examine primary historical sources. The University noted that the Cagayan Valley region offers rich historical resources, including centuries-old churches, colonial-era structures, and manuscripts, which gave the students an opportunity to understand how history continues to shape present-day communities.
